Hands Free Chest Mount CTAR Device

Our newest model is a chest mount CTAR device that has less tension. It can be used for an extended chin tuck hold  exercise (beginning with chin elevated, and holding chin pressed down to a normal position against mild resistance) during the entire session or for several minutes at a time, depending on the strength and endurance of each patient.

One reusable adhesive chest-pad is included, and can be gently washed with mild soap and water, and then re-used on the same patient up to 30 times, until the adhesive eventually wears off. Replacement adhesive pads are available for $20 each, so that each patient can have their own reusable adhesive chest pad. The chest pads are made of 100% silicone, with biological grade, hypo-allergenic silicone adhesive.

Exercises:

1.) Chin Tuck Against Resistance - CTAR: Tell the patient to nod his head slowly up and down against the resistance of the flexible ISO CTAR Device. The PhagiaFlex Hands Free Chest-mount CTAR Device provides less resistance than our hand held CTAR device, which makes it ideal for patients who have little strength, or for more gentle, extended exercises.

2.) Chin Tuck Against Resistance and Hold - CTAR Hold: Tell the patient to nod his head slowly down against the resistance of the flexible ISO CTAR Device and hold this position until he feels the muscles in his throat burning from fatigue, like you would in your arms when lifting weights. With this model, most patients will be able to maintain the hold position for several minutes at a time, before feeling the muscles begin to burn from fatigue. It is a very gentle, comfortable exercise, which feels almost like no work at all. The patient just maintains a slight pressure to keep the chin in a normal position, while watching TV, reading, singing, or talking, and after an extended hold of 5-30 minutes, the patient will feel the suprahyoid muscles under the chin become fatigued.

3.) Jaw Opening Against Resistance - JOAR: Tell the patient to nod his head down and hold his head in this position while he slowly presses his jaw down to open his mouth as widely as possible. Tell him to be sure to keep his head still while his mouth opens so that only his jaw is moving. Open and close the mouth slowly until the muscles of the throat burn with fatigue.

4.) Jaw Opening Against Resistance and Hold - JOAR Hold: Begin the JOAR exercise, but hold in the mouth open position until the muscles of the throat burn with fatigue.
